Things You Will Need

  1. A Hairspray
  2. Comb
  3. Bobby pins
  4. Elastic band

How To Make A French Braid

Start with dry or damp hair. You can try this hairstyle on both straight and curly hair. Start by brushing your hair gently with a paddle brush to smoothen it and detangle any knots. Apply some hair mousse on the mid-lengths of your hair (and not on the roots). This product will give extra volume to your hair and a shiny “just-washed” appearance. It is usually lighter on the hair, unlike gels that weigh your hair down and give them a crunchy look.

If you have thin or fine hair, then mousse is probably a must-have product for you as it gives an instant volume boost to the hair.

Step:1

Brush all your hair backwards, and then, using your fingers, grab a chunk of hair from your hairline right over the crown.

Step: 2

Divide the piece into three even sections as you would do while braiding your hair normally. Start braiding.

Step: 3

Continue braiding, but every time you cross a section over another, take a small section of hair from the loose strands hanging on the same side and add it to the section that you will cross over.

Step: 4

As you will go down braiding, you will see that the number of strands loose will soon start diminishing and will get incorporated into the sections that you’re crossing over. And by the time you reach the nape of your hair, there won’t be any extra leftover hair to incorporate into the braid. So, now you can just start braiding your hair as you normally do. Easy, isn’t it!

Secure your fishtail braid with an elastic band and spritz a bit of hairspray on it to fix the hairstyle. Use bobby pins to secure any loose strands that you want to be tucked in.

Quick Tips

Here are some quick tips and tricks that will help you style your French braid.

  1. You can accessorize your braid by sticking some pearls or shiny beads on it to give it a more feminine look.
  2. You can also wear a hair band or put natural flowers on it to make your hairstyle look more stylish and girly.
  3. To give your hairstyle a variation, you can opt for the messy look by pulling the sections apart and loosening them.
  4. To avoid tangling, keep your hands separated during the plaiting.

French braid is pretty simple to make once you master the art. Once you become a pro, you can give some variations to your hairstyle by trying the waterfall braid, Dutch braid, or the fishtail braid. Also read Tutorial How To Make A Dutch Braid: A Step By Step
